Why This Indian Ocean Favourite Continues to Deliver
Mauritius has long been one of our favourite destinations in the Indian Ocean, and following Gilly’s recent stay at Beachcomber’s Shandrani Resort & Spa, it felt like the perfect time to talk about why we continue to recommend the island so highly to our clients.
There is no getting away from the fact that Mauritius is a long journey from the UK. It’s not the sort of destination you casually pop over to for a week in the sun. But if you are prepared to make the trip, what waits for you at the other end is one of the warmest, most welcoming and most rewarding holiday destinations we know. Beautiful beaches, exceptional hotels, fantastic food, lush tropical scenery and genuinely kind hospitality all combine to create a holiday that feels special from the moment you arrive.

Is Mauritius Expensive?
What also surprises many people is the value Mauritius currently offers. When clients compare the cost of premium European holidays during peak periods against what is included in Mauritius, the island often compares incredibly well. Particularly when you factor in the quality of the hotels, the standard of service, the food, the climate and the amount of space many of the resorts offer.
Mauritius vs The Maldives
One of the reasons we love Mauritius so much is because it suits such a wide range of travellers. It works brilliantly for couples, honeymooners and families alike and, unlike some long-haul beach destinations, there is plenty to do beyond simply lying by the pool. That matters because one of the biggest concerns we hear from clients considering the Indian Ocean is whether they might get bored.
The Maldives remains one of our most requested destinations for romantic escapes and honeymoons and, for some people, it absolutely is the dream. If your vision is an overwater villa with steps directly into a turquoise lagoon, Mauritius simply is not the same type of holiday. But for many travellers, Mauritius can actually be the better fit. You still get the Indian Ocean beauty, warm waters and luxury hotels, but with far more variety outside the resort. There are mountains, waterfalls, rum distilleries, markets, golf courses, catamaran cruises, hiking trails and local culture to experience alongside the beaches.
Many clients also find Mauritius works particularly well when one partner wants complete relaxation whilst the other still wants activities, sightseeing and opportunities to explore.

Why We Love Beachcomber
This is where Beachcomber Resorts really stand out. Beachcomber have been part of Mauritius for decades and their collection genuinely offers something for almost every type of client. They currently operate eight resorts across the island, each with its own personality and atmosphere.
At the very top end sits Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury, widely regarded as one of the finest hotels in Mauritius and consistently recognised for its exceptional service and attention to detail. For families, resorts such as Victoria Beachcomber Resort & Spa continue to be hugely popular thanks to their relaxed atmosphere, generous all inclusive options and excellent value for money. Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa remains one of the most sought-after resorts on the west coast, particularly for couples wanting a beautiful beach and a more romantic setting.
Then you have Paradis Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa and Dinarobin Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa, sitting beneath the dramatic backdrop of Le Morne mountain on the south-west coast. The setting there is absolutely stunning, and the shared golf course between the two resorts makes them especially popular with golfers and couples looking for a slightly more refined atmosphere.
Why Shandrani Remains a Personal Favourite
For Gilly personally, Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa has always been one of her favourites. Located on the quieter south-east coast close to Blue Bay Marine Park, the resort feels slightly different to many of the others on the island. It sits on its own peninsula surrounded by three separate beaches, giving it a spacious and relaxed feel that works brilliantly for both couples and families.
It is particularly strong for watersports and all inclusive holidays, and it suits clients who enjoy having activities available alongside relaxation. There is a lovely balance there between laid-back island life and having plenty to do.
One thing Gilly was particularly keen to point out following her recent stay was the warmth of the Mauritian people. Across all the Beachcomber resorts, the service feels genuine rather than rehearsed, and we honestly believe a lot of that comes from the fact that the staff are local Mauritians with enormous pride in both their country and their work.
You can feel it throughout the resorts. From the gardeners and housekeeping teams through to restaurant staff and management, there is a warmth and friendliness that clients remember long after they return home.
The Best Time to Visit Mauritius
Clients often ask us about the best time to visit Mauritius and, whilst it is very much a year-round destination, there are certainly periods we tend to favour more than others. Generally speaking, we prefer the period from around May through to early December, particularly September, October and November when temperatures are warm, humidity is lower and conditions are excellent for beach holidays.
That said, weather in Mauritius can never be guaranteed and it is important to be honest about that. January to March is typically the hottest and most humid period and also falls within cyclone season, so we do not generally recommend it as a first choice. However, interestingly, several of Gilly’s couples travelled during this period this year and experienced absolutely incredible weather throughout their holidays.
Equally, the last two times Gilly herself visited Mauritius were both in May and she experienced quite a bit of rain on both occasions. But this is tropical travel, and actually that rain is part of what makes Mauritius so beautiful. The island is incredibly lush and green, with tropical plants, palm trees and dramatic scenery everywhere you look. Most of the rain tends to arrive in short but heavy showers which pass through quickly, often followed by sunshine again not long afterwards. Importantly, it is never cold when it rains. As the locals say, it is simply “liquid sunshine”.
One of the reasons first-hand knowledge matters so much with Mauritius is because the weather can vary quite dramatically depending on which coast you are staying on. It may be cloudy and wet in one part of the island whilst another enjoys sunshine, and understanding those differences helps us match clients to the right resort at the right time of year.
The Current Beachcomber Sale
Beachcomber’s current sale also makes Mauritius particularly attractive at the moment. Their biggest Beachcomber Tours sale is now live, clients can currently save up to 35% across all Beachcomber resorts, or up to 40% on selected non-refundable stays.
The booking window runs from 4 May to 4 June 2026, with travel available right through until 30 June 2027, subject to blackout dates between 15 October and 15 November 2026, 20 December 2026 and 8 January 2027, and 20 March to 10 April 2027.
Why Booking Through Us Makes a Difference
One thing that also makes booking Beachcomber so straightforward for our clients is that we have direct access to Beachcomber’s dedicated travel agent booking and availability portal. That means we can check live availability, room types, offers and pricing quickly and efficiently, often whilst we are speaking to you.
So if you would like a personalised quote or simply want to explore what might work for your dates and budget, please just ask. It is a very simple and surprisingly quick process.
As always, our role is helping clients work out not simply where they want to go, but which resort genuinely suits them best. Mauritius is not a one-size-fits-all destination. The atmosphere changes dramatically depending on which part of the island you stay on and which hotel you choose. Some resorts are ideal for honeymooners, some for golfers, some for families and some for clients who simply want complete peace and quiet.
That is why we believe personal experience matters so much. Having visited Mauritius extensively and knowing the Beachcomber collection in detail, we can help clients choose the resort that truly fits the kind of holiday they are dreaming about. Because when you are travelling this far, getting those details right makes all the difference.
