On 28th August 2025, we hosted Brewood’s very first No Stopping Her women solo travel meet-up — and what a night it was!

Twenty amazing women came together, from seasoned solo travellers to those looking to take their very first steps into travelling alone. Many had experienced life-changing moments — from divorce to the loss of a husband — and were ready to start a new chapter through the freedom of solo travel.

Why We Started No Stopping Her

The evening began with Gilly Bachelor and Katrina Lowes, co-founders of No Stopping Her, sharing why they created this community.

“So many women came to me to plan a holiday but were waiting for friends or family to join them. Too often those trips never happened, as diaries and budgets didn’t align — and years were lost sitting at home instead of exploring the world.” – Gilly

Katrina, who has travelled solo for over 30 years, explained how she often ended up on trips she didn’t want to take, or looking after her nieces and nephews (who she adores!) rather than doing something just for herself.

“Solo travel gave me the freedom to go where I wanted, when I wanted — it was a gift to myself.” – Katrina

What’s Stopping Women Travelling Solo?

The evening wasn’t about selling holidays. Instead, it was about starting an honest conversation: what’s holding women back from solo travel?

For many, the answer was confidence.

Katrina’s advice was practical and reassuring:

  • Start small – try a short break or a group trip.
  • Pick English-speaking destinations – so language isn’t a barrier.
  • Go somewhere familiar – a place you’ve already visited with friends or family, so it doesn’t all feel new at once.

The “Aren’t You Brave” Factor

Several women shared how friends or family respond when they say they’re travelling solo: “Aren’t you brave?” or “Is it safe?”

Katrina offered great tips on how to handle those comments — and how to travel safely without letting fear hold you back.

There was also plenty of laughter around being “adopted” by couples on holiday. As one guest put it:

“Sometimes it’s lovely — other times you just want to read your book in peace!”

Shared Wisdom & Surprising Insights

One of the best parts of the evening was the sharing of lived experience. Seasoned solo travellers passed on practical advice to first-timers — from where to go, to how to manage those first nerves.

And there were some surprises too. A few women spoke about their love of hostels, enjoying the social side and even sharing a room with someone they’d never met before. It was eye-opening for many in the room.

Takeaway Tips from the Night

  1. Start small – even a weekend away builds confidence.
  2. Choose comfort – familiar destinations or English-speaking places make it easier.
  3. Group trips help – join like-minded women and share the experience.
  4. Ignore the “aren’t you brave” comments – focus on the excitement, not the fear.
  5. Say yes to surprises – sometimes the most unexpected experiences become the best stories.

A Community That Lifts Each Other Up

What made the evening so special was the support in the room. Women who had never met before connected instantly, laughed together, and left feeling more confident about saying yes to a solo adventure.

This is exactly why we started No Stopping Her: to build a community where women can share their stories, lift each other up, and discover the joy of travelling on their own terms.

And this was just the beginning — we can’t wait to host more meet-ups and watch this inspiring community grow.

Because when it comes to solo travel, there really is no stopping her!
