For many years, the classic “family holiday” has meant a week in the sunshine at a beach resort with all inclusive. Sun, sea, pools, cocktails, kids’ clubs – it ticked a lot of boxes. And let’s be clear: that’s still a hugely popular choice with our clients. But there’s also a growing number of our families who are coming to us as they want to explore something different. Instead of a week or two on the sun lounger, they’re looking for adventure, exploration and new experiences.

To round off our series, this family took their summer holiday in a completely new direction — swapping the traditional all-inclusive for a two-week journey through Canada. From city skylines to thundering waterfalls and peaceful lakes, it was a trip that blended iconic sights with family-friendly adventures.

The Journey

Flying direct from Manchester to Toronto, they began with a few nights in the city centre. A stay at the Sheraton made it easy to explore on foot, with the CN Tower a highlight — soaring views over the skyline, Lake Ontario, and even across to the US on a clear day.

From there, a hire car gave them the freedom to head out on the open road. Their first stop was Niagara Falls, where Fallsview rooms meant they could see the cascades from their hotel window before stepping out to experience them up close on a Voyage to the Falls boat tour.

Into the Lakes and Mountains

Leaving the roar of Niagara behind, they drove north to Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, set on the edge of Algonquin Park. Here, the holiday slowed into a rhythm of canoeing, paddle-boarding, and hiking, with lakefront beaches and trails making it easy to be outdoors from dawn to dusk. Resort wristbands gave access to endless activities — from tennis and pickleball to stand-up paddleboards and kayaking — ensuring no one ever got bored.

The Final Stop

The journey ended with a stay in Guelph, a smaller university town west of Toronto. It was a chance to enjoy a quieter pace, local dining, and a comfortable base before the flight home.

Why This Holiday Felt Different

Instead of days that all looked the same, every stage of this trip brought something new: city buzz, natural wonders, resort fun, and time to relax. The combination of self-drive independence and well-chosen hotels gave the family variety without stress, and excursions like the CN Tower and Niagara cruise added those unforgettable “wow” moments.

Final Thoughts

By stepping away from the classic sun-and-pool routine, this Canadian adventure gave the family a completely different kind of holiday — one filled with contrast, freedom, and a real sense of discovery. For anyone curious about trying something new, Canada is proof that family travel can be both easy and extraordinary.
