Here at Gilly Bachelor Travel Expert, we’re spotlighting families who are rethinking the classic all-inclusive holiday in the Med. This family traded the familiar short-haul beach break for a long-haul island escape to Mauritius — seeking milder temperatures, and a generous all inclusive package which included unlimited water sports!
The Switch: Why Mauritius?
In August, the Grand Baie area, has average daytime temperatures ranging from 19 to 25°C, with sea temperatures around 24°C. The month is characterised by a warm and comfortably mild climate, with around 7 hours of sunshine per day and infrequent, brief showers, though getting a wet (but warm) day should be expected. With temperatures across Europe hotter than ever, and with frequent wild fires, it’s easy to see why Mauritius is tempting!
Their base was Victoria Beachcomber Resort & Spa on the island’s west coast — a spacious beachfront property with four restaurants, dedicated kids and teens clubs, and plenty of free land and water sports. This 14 night holiday, including Emirates flights, private transfers, with all inclusive was £10,000, significantly cheaper than anything we could offer in Europe of a similar standard.
The Journey & Arrival
Direct flights from London with BA and Air Mauritius are available however our family flew with Emirates from Manchester via Dubai. A private transfer took them straight to the resort, where a newly renovated ground-floor deluxe room offered plenty of space — complete with a terrace opening into tropical gardens that lead directly to the beach.

Why This All-Inclusive Feels Different
Mauritius’ version of all-inclusive is about choice and quality rather than repetition. Snorkelling, paddle-boarding, and tennis were included alongside access to the fitness centre, sauna and hammam — meaning every day could look a little different without extra costs.
Meals ranged from island-style buffets that changed daily to à la carte dining, with afternoon pastries, poolside service, and a replenished mini-bar rounding things off. Parents could slip away to the adults-only restaurant while the children enjoyed age-appropriate clubs, and the resort’s location made it easy to dip into nearby towns before heading back for a sunset on the sand.
A real surprise was how much their teenage daughter loved the kids club, and this is all included!
Is This Your Kind of Different?
If your family’s ready to graduate from the usual all-inclusive to something with island soul — dramatic sunsets, Indian Ocean snorkelling, Creole flavours, and space to spread out — Mauritius is a beautiful next chapter. And because Beachcomber were among the first hoteliers on the island, their beachfront locations are outstanding; you feel it the moment you wander from garden to sand.
Gilly’s Tips for Mauritius with Kids & Teens
- Book early for summer: Family rooms and interconnecting options are limited; peak weeks go fast. (We’ll flag any age-based club categories and pre-book where needed.)
- Maximise the inclusions: From kayaks to tennis, “free” becomes “fun” when your kids can hop between activities without asking for the card.
- Mix resort time with micro-adventures: Pair beach days with a morning in Port Louis or an afternoon in Grand Baie — easy hops from the west coast.
- Know the fine print: All-inclusive covers a lot (meals, drinks 9 a.m.–11 p.m., mini-bar once daily, pastries, pool/beach service, sauna/hammam).
