If you saw our announcement last month you will have read that this year we will be making a donation to our local foodbank rather than sending out Christmas cards.

Every year we write and post over 200 hundred Christmas cards, and we personalise each card with a heartfelt message.

This year we reached out to our ‘Christmas card list’ and asked if you would be happy for us to donate £2 on your behalf, instead of receiving a card, your response was overwhelmingly supportive!

The big shop!

Last week Stephanie, plus Phil and Emma from the E-Van Guru team, set off to Sainsbury’s in Cannock, to complete the ‘big shop’.

Importantly, Stephanie spoke to the team at the Cannock & District Food Bank ahead of the shop, to identify what items were most in need, as this does vary from week to week.

Tinned goods are always a popular request as they last a long time, however, this week tea, coffee and custard were top of the list, and of course some lovely Christmas treats!

This week we also focused on non-food items including toiletries (deodorant, shower gel, shampoo, shaving gel, soap, tooth paste and toothbrushes) plus household essentials including toilet rolls, laundry powder, washing up liquid, plus lots of feminine hygiene products and baby supplies (nappies, wipes and food) as these are just so expensive.

As the team worked their way around Sainsbury’s they attracted attention from other shoppers, one was baffled why they would be buying 15 boxes of tea. When she found out why, she made a £20 contribution, so our total shopping spend was just over £320.

Cannock & District Foodbank are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. If you would like to support this initiative please visit their website here.
