Here’s what you can do to help!
Please listen carefully to the airport security team and be prepared as you approach the front of the queue
Airport security scanning technology varies, if you are lucky enough to be going through one of the latest scanners you will not need to take anything out of your hand luggage, including liquids, however, with older ones you will be asked to remove your liquids, laptop and probably your shoes too!
We suggest that you pack your hand luggage so your electronics are easily accessible; remove your watch and belt and (put it in your hand luggage), and wear slip on shoes so you are not fiddling with laces before or after the scanner.
Rules for liquids in your hand luggage:
- containers must hold no more than 100ml
- containers must be in a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag, which holds no more than a litre and measures approximately 20cm x 20cm
- contents must fit comfortably inside the bag so it can be sealed
- the bag must not be knotted or tied at the top
- you are limited to 1 plastic bag per person.
Confused by what is classed as a liquid (you’re not alone!)
Obviously, all drinks (including water) but the following are also classed as liquids and must comply with the rules above:
- Creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, solutions, mascara and lip gloss;
- Sprays, including shaving foam, hairspray and spray deodorants;
- Pastes, including toothpaste;
- Gels, including hair and shower gel.
There are exemptions to these rules:
You can take liquid containers larger than 100ml through security if they:
- are for essential medical purposes (you will need to show your prescription or a letter from your doctor);
- are for special dietary requirements;
- contain baby food or baby milk.
- the items are sealed inside a security bag when you buy them;
- the receipt for the items is sealed in the security bag and visible.
