Advisory Travel Notice from Gilly Bachelor

Whilst we are liaising directly with our clients, I’m mindful that many people are not aware of this important development. Please read on if you’re heading to the United States in the coming days or weeks, as there’s an important update you need to be aware of.

The US Federal Government has entered a shutdown — the first since 2018 — due to a political standoff over public service funding. While essential services are still operating (including air traffic control, airport security, passport control and ESTA systems), there are several areas where your trip could be affected.

What’s Operating As Normal:
  • Flights, air traffic control and border security
  • Passport control and ESTA processing
  • Law enforcement and emergency services
What May Be Closed or Disrupted:

Many museums, National Parks and federal-run landmarks — including iconic sites such as:

  • Grand Canyon
  • Yosemite
  • Statue of Liberty
  • Smithsonian Museums
  • Many historical monuments and visitor centres

These attractions may be closed without notice or operating with limited staffing and services.

My Advice If You’re Travelling to the USA
  • Check in advance whether any attractions or tours you’ve booked are still operating
  • Have backup plans for excursions or sightseeing days
  • Allow extra time at airports, as staff shortages could cause bottlenecks even if security remains open
  • Stay informed — I’ll be monitoring the situation closely for my travellers

If you’ve booked with us, rest assured — we’re here to make sure your trip runs as smoothly as possible.
