Quiet, Elegant Luxury… By Gilly Bachelor
I recently spent the day on Seven Seas Mariner, fresh out of her November 2025 refit in Malaga, to see how she compares to Regent’s newer Explorer-class ships. As someone who specialises in luxury cruising, I wanted to experience first-hand how this beautifully refreshed ship balances classic elegance with modern touches.
You can follow along with me here, as I provide an up-close and personal tour of the recently refurbished Seven Seas Mariner.

A Little Background on Regent and Mariner
Regent Seven Seas Cruises has long been a benchmark for ultra-luxury cruising, known for their all-inclusive approach, all-suite accommodations, and impeccable service. Their ships are designed for travellers who value space, comfort, and thoughtful details, rather than bold spectacle.
Within the fleet, Seven Seas Mariner is one of the more established ships, having launched in 2001, but she has been fully revitalised in her latest refit. With a gross tonnage of 48,075 GT, she carries approximately 700 guests with a crew of 445. She sits perfectly between Regent’s smaller boutique-style vessels and the grander Explorer-class ships — intimate enough to feel calm and personal, yet spacious enough to deliver all the luxury and comfort you expect from Regent.

First Impressions on the Day
From the moment I stepped on board, I could feel that Mariner isn’t trying to shout. Unlike the Explorer-class ships — which are spectacular, dramatic, and filled with statement spaces — Mariner is classic, understated, and quietly luxurious. Think of her as a more intimate, compact version of a Cunard liner: elegant and timeless.
Every stateroom is a suite with a balcony, so light, space, and sea views are simply part of everyday life. The atmosphere is calm, welcoming, and unpretentious — luxury that’s felt rather than announced.
Fresh from Refit — What I Saw
I toured three suites — the Concierge Suite, Mariner Suite, and lead-in balcony (897) — and each felt bright, airy, and beautifully updated. The décor is modern but soft, the layouts flow naturally, and the walk-in wardrobes are a real highlight for anyone who likes to unpack properly.
Bathrooms are slightly more compact than on Regent’s newest ships, but perfectly functional, and the elegance and comfort of the suites more than make up for it.
Classic, Timeless Design in a Trend-Driven World…
What struck me most is how different Mariner feels compared with many new ships today. The trend is bold, highly stylised interiors with dramatic lighting, statement art, and big architectural gestures.
Mariner is different. She is classic, elegant, and timeless, offering a gentle luxury that doesn’t date. For many travellers — myself included — this quieter style of luxury is exactly what makes cruising truly relaxing.

Shakedown Days and Regent’s Care
Being fresh from her refit, there were a few teething issues. What impressed me most was how open and responsive Regent were. Every detail was handled quickly, transparently, and with genuine care, ensuring guests felt looked after every step of the way. That kind of attention behind the scenes makes all the difference.
Dining That Reminds You Why Regent Is Loved
We had lunch in Compass Rose (the ships main restaurant), and it was flawless — perfectly cooked sea bass, warm and attentive service, and a glass of Viognier (included, of course). That’s the joy of Regent: everything is included — wines, champagne, specialty dining, gratuities, excursions — so you can relax and truly enjoy the moment.
Seven Seas Mariner vs. Explorer-Class Ships
Regent’s newer ships — Explorer, Splendor, and Grandeur — are striking and modern, filled with bold statement spaces. Mariner offers a different personality: more intimate, more traditional, and more soothing. It’s not less luxurious — it’s a different style of luxury, perfect for travellers who value calm elegance over spectacle.
Final Thoughts…
Stepping off Seven Seas Mariner, I was reminded that luxury doesn’t need to shout. She is calm, refined and quietly indulgent. For anyone looking for a cruise that feels timeless, elegant, and thoughtfully designed, Mariner is a standout. Her recent refit only enhances her charm and ensures she’s ready for the season ahead.
I hope you enjoy the walk-through video — it captures Mariner exactly as she felt: polished, warm, honest, and full of potential. If you missed it, you can find the walk-through video here.
