AI seems to be everywhere at the moment, doesn’t it? From apps that whip up holiday ideas in seconds to chatbots that give instant answers, it all sounds very clever.

And I’ll be honest—AI is brilliant at some things.

Where AI is Handy

If you’re at the early “dreaming” stage, it can be fun to use. It might suggest:

  • Where to find sunshine in December
  • Family-friendly destinations with short flights
  • Cities that are perfect for foodies

It can also round up reviews or compare lots of options really quickly. In other words, it’s great for ideas and research.

But Here’s the Problem…

When it comes to actually booking your holiday, AI can let you down. One example I tested was advice on booking an infant seat with Jet2 Holidays—the information was simply wrong, and if you’d followed it, it could have cost hundreds of pounds to fix.

Other problems I see often:

  • Out-of-date info – entry rules, visas, or destination advice can change rapidly, and AI doesn’t always keep pace.
  • No nuance – it won’t warn you if somewhere is best avoided, or tell you about a fabulous new destination just starting to open up.
  • No help when things go wrong – and let’s be honest, things do go wrong, especially this summer: airline strikes, wildfires, sick clients, delayed visas, and last-minute travel restrictions are just a few of the headaches we’ve been handling. AI won’t pick up the phone to sort it all out while keeping you calm and reassured.
