I’ve just returned from a truly wonderful cruise that began in Cape Town and concluded in the stunning Seychelles, with an incredible stop in Madagascar along the way… sadly I didn’t make it beyond our first stop in Madagascar but that’s another story!
While the journey was a fantastic experience overall, there were a few conversations I had with fellow travellers that really stood out to me. These conversations revolved around some unexpected challenges they encountered, which highlighted just how important it is to be well-prepared when travelling.
Let me share some of these moments with you…
During lunch, I spoke with a group of guests who had just learnt they needed to complete an online entry form for the Seychelles. This was something they could have sorted out as early as 30 days before their arrival, but they had only discovered it at the last minute. As a result, they were now under pressure to fill out the form and upload the required documents while onboard the ship. Unfortunately, the free internet access provided on the ship wasn’t really up to the task of handling anything beyond basic messages and emails.
Later that day, over dinner, I had a chat with a couple who were clearly upset after finding out about the need for anti-malarial medication for Madagascar. Madagascar is classified as a high-risk area for Malaria, so taking preventive measures is essential.
The following morning, while catching up on the news, I read about yet another situation that could have been avoided with better preparation. A couple travelling from Manchester to Spain had been refused entry onto their flight because their passports didn’t meet the new requirements brought about by post-Brexit changes. These rules have been in place since 2019, yet it seems they continue to catch some people off guard.
Additionally, there have been reports of British citizens ending up in legal trouble in the USA due to not complying with ESTA rules.
What all of this makes clear is that, as exciting as planning a holiday can be, it’s crucial to take the time to research and ensure you’re fully prepared. Ultimately, it’s your responsibility to make sure you meet all entry and health requirements, however, this doesn’t mean you have to navigate it all alone.
